TEL's Work in Shanghai

With about 17 million lost souls in Shanghai alone, our small staff has no lack of work.

Operating according to TEL distinctives, we work openly in China, blending foreign and local staff, serving the registered church in as many ways as possible, not the least of which is linking new believers to the local church for the sake of continuity.

We mainly target college students, since they have the most free time, but we desire to bring the gospel to all people in Shanghai--and beyond.

We meet people at church, on the street, in parks, on buses, in shops, in restaurants (McDonald's and KFC are extremely popular), and even at English Corners (where English-learners meet to practice their spoken English).  Wherever we meet someone, if they have 10-15 minutes and an interest, we share the gospel with them.  If they have an interest but no time, we invite them to our weekly Bible studies or to a church fellowship, where we make sure they hear the gospel.

We teach in homes, in public restaurants (mainly McDonald's and KFC) and at the local church, whenever possible.

Those who believe are taught a four-week Bible study in the Gospel of John to confirm their decision and expand their understanding of their new relationship with Christ.  Afterward, they are given eight-week's training in the basic skills needed to grow as a Christian, such as Bible reading and note-taking, Scripture memory, prayer and witnessing.

We're always on the look-out for those young Believers that God is calling into greater service.  These we train toward a life full of Reaping and Training Reapers.
